In the last thirteen years and without any bloodshed, Hungary (the size of Indiana with a population of 10 million) has emerged from a dictatorship to a full-fledged democracy. It has a free press and the government has separate branches of power. What can we learn from Hungary's democratic success? Forence Miszlivetz is a sociologist and director of the Institute for Social and European Studies. Prior to the collapse of the Soviet empire, he was a leader of the democratic opposition movement. Today, he is one Europe's leading intellectuals and theorists of civil society. His interview was made possible by the Baker Institute at Juniata College.
