Producer David Price interviews Craig Grimes, Penn State professor of electrical engineering and materials science. Bearing in mind that central Pennsylvania has one of the highest incidences of diabetes in the country, Grimes' research team has developed an implant, called a biosensor, that constantly monitors insulin levels. This new device could actually be linked to an insulin pump allowing the biosensor to control insulin levels all the time, relieving diabetics of the painful pin pricks currently used to test insulin levels. Also, for years, coffee has been touted as an energy booster at the expense of health. Now, new research is suggesting that you may not be drinking enough. Host Patty Satalia interviews Manfred Kroger, a professor emeritus of food science and science technology and society at Penn State, who has been quoted coast-to-coast about the apparent health benefits of coffee.
