From the segregated society of 1920’s Greenville, South Carolina, to Manhattan’s hoppin’ Greenwich Village, to the 1974 Grammy’s, the Dixie Hummingbirds have been one of gospel’s most enduring and inspirational groups. Jerry Zolten is an assistant professor of American Studies at Penn State - Altoona and author of Great God A’ Mighty, The Dixie Hummingbirds, published by Oxford Press.
